Who I am
My name is Matteo Canino and I am a full-stack developer moving towards AI engineering. I live in Catanzaro, in Calabria, and I work at Altrama Italia, in Cosenza. Software is the thread that holds my path together, from a technical diploma in computer science to the multi-agent systems I am studying now.
Where I come from
I started with a technical diploma in Computer Science at ITTS "E. Scalfaro" in Catanzaro, from 2016 to 2021. Then a bachelor's degree in Computer Science at the University of Calabria, from September 2021 to December 2025, and now a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, Data Science curriculum, while I keep working.
Since September 2025 I have been working at Altrama Italia as a developer: my main stack is Spring Boot and Java, together with React, Flutter, Docker, Keycloak, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB. Along the way there are the courses I picked: robotics with Comau (the C5G family of robots, in 2021), IT Essentials with Cisco Networking Academy, the 150-hour Unical Game Forge programme, and more recently AI agents and MCP, prompt engineering, and UI and web design.
What I like
I like complex systems: things made of many simple parts that, by talking to each other, produce behaviour none of the parts has alone. I like space, for the same reason and because it is depth, emptiness and precision at once. I like video games, which I build in my free time: I wrote a 2D top-down game in Java Swing with a classmate, and I know Unity and C# too. I like interface design: I took a UI and web design course and this site is my testing ground. My favourite colour is the dark orange, which is why you see it everywhere.
What I build
My GitHub repositories hold what interests me most: a multi-agent trading system built with LangGraph, a university data warehouse with a Python ETL and Tableau dashboards, a marketplace with an Android app in Kotlin, an Angular website and a Spring Boot backend, a tool that translates controlled Italian into ASP programs, an AI for Tron Battle written in Java and ASP, and a 2D game in Java Swing with a map editor and a five-level campaign. They are study projects, and I say so, but they show where I am looking.
Why space, software and AI
I do not believe in metaphors that do the work of code, but I do believe these three things have the same shape.
A multi-agent system is a small galaxy: many simple parts, one structure.
Complexity comes from relationships. A single agent does little: a role, a prompt, a few tools. It is the graph that connects them, with its shared state and its rules, that produces something useful. Space works this way: simple laws, masses, distances, and from them galaxies. Being a developer means designing exactly this: how parts talk to each other, what they remember, what happens when one of them gets it wrong.
Signal in the void. In space almost everything is empty and information is a faint signal to tell apart from noise. With AI it is the same problem, in software form: finding a pattern in a lot of data and, above all, knowing when to trust it. That is why, as a developer, I care about the unglamorous part: guardrails, validation, logs, testing every node. Around probabilistic components you need deterministic, precise code, and that is where the full-stack craft counts.
A journey in stages. I have told my path as a journey between planets, each one farther from the Sun than the last: Earth for the diploma, Mars for the degree, Jupiter for work, Saturn for the master's, Neptune for the direction I chose, AI and multi-agent systems. Every stage is a choice to go a little further.
I came to AI from software and not the other way round because agents are engineering: APIs, state, errors, deployment. With space they share a basic curiosity: how a system behaves when you look at it from far away and when you look at it from inside.
Where I am going
I want to graduate, keep working on software and specialise in AI engineering and multi-agent systems. On this blog I will write about what I learn, mistakes included. If you would like to talk about it, get in touch from the Contact section.
